coming Sunday.
OK, so what happens on Journal Sundays?
In a nutshell, this is about giving yourself permission and time to be creative, in a self-directed sort of way.
Over the years many people have commented on wanting to just sit and spend time being creative in my Garden Studio. I understand that! It’s my personal happy place!
And so, I am giving people an opportunity to experience the peace and joy that comes from being in a creative space/state ….. physically and mentally.
Have you ever watched children drawing or colouring? They are totally absorbed by their play. They are experiencing what I call the bliss of being in your creative right brain.
Through the structure of a journal one can draw, paint, write, release, dream, vent, concoct anything their heart desires. Play with colour, texture, lines, shapes. Write a poem, a song, a story. Imagine being able to sit down and allow yourself to just respond to what is pressing in your life at the moment, or to just escape. Let’s learn to be “in” the moment. It’s wonderfully cathartic! For some, writing may never be put on the page. Each individual will discover what kind of expression works best for them.
Although this is NOT a class, and it certainly is NOT a therapy session, you will find that you will learn things and may find yourself very relaxed and somewhat joyful at the end of your playtime!
I will begin each session giving you ideas as to how you can work in your journal. In the first 10 minutes I will share a simple technique that can be used in your journal. As this is a drop-in experience, for those that come regularly, they will be building their technique skills over a period of time. Once I introduce the technique, people are free to lose themselves in their experience.
What do you bring?
A Journal
You need to find a journal that fits your style. I will talk about what kind of journals I like to use and why. My preferred journal is a sketchbook with heavier paper, hardcover with a binding that allows for the journal to lie flat. I will have journals available to purchase if attendees wish to purchase one at my studio. Cost: $ 17.00
Art Supplies:
Bring whatever art supplies you have at home. Pencil crayons, stencils, scissors, washi-tapes, calligraphy pens, markers, collage items, photos, stamps….. Let’s use some of those wonderful things that you have laying around but might not use very much!
I will also share some of my supplies (water buckets, pencils, some watercolours, oil pastels, markers, stamps, pencil crayons, UHU glue, etc.)
Think RETREAT!
Because some people are coming to escape the craziness of their daily lives, I would like people to be respectful of eachothers space and needs. I will have some ambient music playing in the studio, however, I would suggest people bring their own music via smartphone, i-pods, etc and headsets.
Bring your favourite tea or coffee (I have a kettle and a keurig). Lug a mug as well!
If the weather is nice, people may also sit at tables in the back garden or on the deck. If you choose to do this, please bring a sunhat, sunscreen, and protection from mosquitoes!

I’m looking forward to sharing my love of journalling with you!
